Illuminated Golf BallsIn the Shetland Islands, even further north than the Orkneys, which lie off the north of mainland Scotland, local golfers look forward to playing in the "simmer dim", which is their name for the midnight twilight they have in midsummer. They are so far north that it never really gets dark in Summer, so they can play golf in the middle of the night if they want to. If the rest of us want to play gofl in the middle of the night, we need some way of seeing where the ball is going and where it has landed. For just such an occasion there are available, lighting up golf balls. These give off a trace of light during flight, so you can watch them as they go, then flash on and off when they land, so you can find them. They are proper golf balls, so you could have a tournament in the dark if you wanted to. They are probably also useful in the early morning and late evening when visibility is a bit limited, but if you want to have a round of golf in the middle of the night, like the Shetlanders, then why not go for it.
